About

Rollways Recreation Area Campground holds a special place in Huron National Forest history as one of the first campgrounds established in the forest back in 1909. Located along the scenic AuSable River, the campground offers a small, secluded setting perfect for those seeking a peaceful riverside retreat. The facility features 19 pull-through campsites designed to accommodate large motor homes and trailers, making it accessible for big rigs. The campground includes modern amenities like vault toilets and potable water available from faucets. Each site features a picnic table and fire pit. The adjacent day use area offers additional recreation opportunities, including an observation area and picnic grounds. A half-hour walking trail connects the day use area to the Westgate Scenic Overlook, providing beautiful views of the surrounding forest and river valley. The AuSable River provides excellent opportunities for fishing, kayaking, and canoeing. The campground serves as an ideal base for exploring the River Road National Scenic Byway and nearby attractions like Iargo Springs and the Highbanks River Trail. Wildlife viewing is popular in the area, and the quiet, forested setting creates a true northern Michigan camping experience.

Directions

From Tawas: Travel west on M-55 for 14.7 miles. Turn right and travel north on M-65 for 14 miles. Turn left and travel north on Rollways Rd. for 500 ft. The site is located on the right. From Oscoda: Travel west on River Rd. for 19 miles. Turn left and travel south on M-65 for 4.5 miles. Turn right and travel west on Rollways Rd. for 500 ft. The site is on the right.
