About

Pine River Recreation Area Campground offers a rustic camping experience in the Huron National Forest, positioned near the South Branch Pine River in Alcona County, Michigan. The campground is a favored destination during fishing season, providing access to quality trout fishing in the surrounding waters. Beyond fishing, visitors can enjoy hunting, day hiking, mushroom gathering, and berry picking in the surrounding forest. A notable feature of this campground is the historic picnic shelter built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the mid-1940s, representing an important piece of Depression-era conservation history. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with basic amenities including vault toilets, though campers should note that potable water is not available and must be treated or filtered from nearby water sources. The campground is managed by the Huron Shores Ranger District and sits adjacent to the Reid Lake Semi-Primitive Nonmotorized Area, offering additional opportunities for wilderness exploration and solitude-seeking campers.
