Special Weather Statement issued December 30 at 2:08AM EST by NWS Binghamton NY

2:08 AM — 8:00 AM

Snow showers, and lake effect snow bands have set up across the region early this morning. Snow could be locally heavy at times, reducing visibility down to 1/4 mile. This coupled with the strong gusty winds, blowing snow and cold temperatures will create snow covered and slippery road conditions. Localized accumulations of 2 or 3 inches will be possible through 8 AM EST. If you are traveling this morning be prepared for rapidly changing weather and road conditions. Plan some extra time to reach your destination safely.

About

Taughannock Falls State Park campground sits along the shores of Cayuga Lake in the heart of New York's Finger Lakes region, offering 76 campsites and 16 cabins with stunning lake views. The campground provides 16 sites with electric hookups and 60 non-electric sites suitable for both RVs and tents. Comfort stations with showers serve the camping areas, and a trailer dump station is available on-site. The park's centerpiece is the spectacular 215-foot Taughannock Falls, one of the highest waterfalls east of the Rocky Mountains, which plunges past rocky cliffs that tower nearly 400 feet above the gorge. The three-quarter-mile gorge trail provides a relatively flat, accessible hike to the base of the falls, while rim trails offer dramatic overlook views from above. Campers have direct access to Cayuga Lake recreation including a marina with transient slips, a boat launch, and a swimming beach open during summer months. Additional park amenities include fishing in both the creek and lake, multiple pavilions available for reservation, a playground, and a multi-use trail system for hiking and winter activities. The park operates a summer concert series and offers educational programs through the Finger Lakes Environmental Education Department. Reservations are made through Reserve America up to 11 months in advance, with sites ranging from $18-$29 per night. The campground welcomes pets with a maximum of two per site.
