Potomac Group Campground

About

Potomac Group Campground is a semi-primitive group camping destination in the Finger Lakes National Forest, New York's only National Forest. Located between Cayuga and Seneca Lakes, this site accommodates groups of 8-45 people and is ideal for family reunions, scout troops, and youth group activities. The campground is hike-in only, approximately 200 yards from the parking area which holds up to 10 vehicles. Facilities include a covered pavilion with four picnic tables, a group cooking grill, both group and individual fire rings, and two vault toilets. There are no tent pads, but several small flat fields provide suitable tenting areas. The site has no potable water, electricity, sewer hookups, artificial lighting, or trash service. The surrounding national forest features over 30 miles of interconnecting trails traversing gorges, ravines, pastures, and woodlands. The Potomac Trail connects directly to the campground and extends about 5 miles round-trip, passing several ponds popular for fishing and wildlife viewing.

Directions

From the south: Take State Route 14 north to Watkins Glen. Turn right at the Fourth Street intersection onto State Route 414. Continue approximately 9 miles north, past the Hector Ranger Station, and turn right on County Route 2. Drive 4.4 miles east to the T-intersection, turn left onto Potomac Road and look for campground signs on the right. From the north: Take State Route 414 south to Hector. Turn left onto County Route 2 and continue 4.4 miles east to the T-intersection. Turn left onto Potomac Road.
