About

Potomac Group Campground offers a semi-primitive group camping experience in the scenic Finger Lakes National Forest, situated between Cayuga and Seneca Lakes in southwestern New York. Designed for groups of 8-45 people, this hike-in campground is ideal for family reunions, scout troops, and youth group activities. The site is located approximately 200 yards from the parking area, which can accommodate up to 10 vehicles, and all gear must be carried in and out. Facilities include a pavilion with four long picnic tables, a group cooking grill, individual and group fire rings, and two vault toilets. The campground features several small, flat fields suitable for tenting, though there are no tent pads or platforms. No drinking water is available on-site, so groups must bring their own supply. There is no electricity, sewer hookup, artificial lights, or dumpster service; all trash must be packed out, though recycling cans are provided. The campground provides excellent access to outdoor recreation. The Potomac Trail extends about 5 miles round-trip through varied forest types and past several ponds, offering moderate difficulty for hiking and cross-country skiing. The trail connects with the Interloken Trail system. Fishing is permitted in the ponds according to state regulations, and the area is popular for game bird hunting. The campground is open year-round with reservations available through Recreation.gov, though winter visitors should note there is no plowed vehicle access during snow season.
