Tamarisk Grove Campground provides a comfortable base for exploring California's largest state park. Located at approximately 1,400 feet elevation along Highway 78, the campground occupies a grove of introduced tamarisk trees that provide welcome shade in the desert environment. The 27 sites include standard tent sites and 11 rustic cabins featuring wooden sleeping platforms that accommodate four people. Each campsite comes equipped with a picnic table beneath a shade ramada and a fire pit with metal grill for cooking. The campground operates seasonally from October 1 through May 31, avoiding the extreme summer heat when temperatures regularly exceed 100 degrees. Coin-operated showers and restrooms serve campers, though potable water is not available so visitors must bring their own supply. A small camp store operated by hosts sells water and limited supplies. Three sites offer accessibility features, with sites 17 and 20 including accessible cabins. The Yaqui Well Nature Trail departs directly across the road from the campground, offering a 1.5-mile walk to a historic water source frequented by wildlife. The campground's central location within the 600,000-acre park provides access to slot canyons, palm oases, and spring wildflower displays that draw visitors from across Southern California.
