About
Swan Creek Campground is nestled in a dense spruce and fir forest along scenic Swan Creek, a tributary of the Gallatin River in southwestern Montana's Gallatin Canyon. Located on the Bozeman Ranger District at 5,800 feet elevation, this 13-site campground provides a peaceful base for exploring the surrounding wilderness. The campground features paved roads with gravel parking spurs averaging 16 by 45 feet, vault toilets with 7 ADA-accessible sites, potable water, and trash collection. The Swan Creek Trail departs directly from the campground, offering hiking opportunities into the backcountry. Anglers will find the nearby Gallatin River excellent for rainbow, brown, brook, and cutthroat trout, as well as whitefish and Arctic grayling. Rafting and kayaking are popular on the river. The Golden Trout Lakes Trail is accessible via Portal Creek Road about five miles south. This is bear country, and all food must be stored in approved containers. Firewood is available for purchase at $10 per bundle. The campground operates at full service from mid-May through September, with limited service through December. Swan Creek Road closes to wheeled motorized vehicles from December 2 through May 15, though winter access is possible by snowmobile or other non-motorized means.
