Moose Creek Group Site is located in the scenic Gallatin Canyon on the Bozeman Ranger District of the Custer Gallatin National Forest, 32 miles south of Bozeman and just off Highway 191. The group site sits next to the Gallatin River and Moose Creek at an elevation of 5,700 feet, partly surrounded by pine and fir trees. This reservation-only group site can accommodate up to 90 people for camping or day use. The site provides picnic tables and campfire rings, as well as vault toilets. Drinking water and trash collection are not available, so campers must bring their own water and pack out all trash. Bears frequent the area, and all food must be stored in approved containers and secured when the campsite is unoccupied. The surrounding area offers exceptional outdoor recreation opportunities. Anglers can fish the Gallatin River for rainbow, brown, brook and cutthroat trout, whitefish, and Arctic grayling. Rafting and kayaking are popular on the river. Nearby hiking trails include the Swan Creek Trail at nearby Swan Creek Campground and the Golden Trout Lakes Trail, which begins about 15 minutes away up Portal Creek Road. Wildlife viewing is excellent, with opportunities to see bald eagles, bighorn sheep, moose, elk, mountain goats, deer, coyotes, and both black and grizzly bears.

Directions

From Bozeman, travel south on Highway 191 for 32 miles to the turnoff, a quarter-mile south of Moose Creek Flat Campground. Turn left onto a gravel road that leads 200 yards to the group site. From West Yellowstone, take Highway 191 north for 57 miles. The group area is on the east side of the highway across from the campground.
