Moose Creek Flat Campground is located in scenic Gallatin Canyon on the Bozeman Ranger District of the Custer Gallatin National Forest, 32 miles south of Bozeman. The campground sits in an open meadow next to the Gallatin River near Moose Creek, just off Highway 191, at an elevation of 5,700 feet. While the surrounding mountainsides are covered with pine and fir forests, the campground itself occupies an open meadow setting. This fully accessible campground offers 13 single-family campsites, each equipped with a picnic table and campfire ring, plus a group picnic area that can accommodate up to 50 people. The campground features paved roads with gravel parking spurs. An accessible fishing dock at the river's edge provides excellent opportunities to catch rainbow, brown, brook and cutthroat trout, whitefish and Arctic grayling on the Gallatin River. The area is also popular for rafting and kayaking. The scenic Gallatin Canyon is home to diverse wildlife including bald eagles, bighorn sheep, moose, elk, mountain goats, deer, coyotes, and both black and grizzly bears. Nearby hiking trails include Swan Creek Trail at Swan Creek Campground and Golden Trout Lakes Trail, which begins about 15 minutes away up Portal Creek Road. The campground provides vault toilets, drinking water from a hand pump, and trash collection. Firewood is available for purchase nearby.

Directions

From Bozeman, take Highway 191 south for 32 miles. From West Yellowstone, take Highway 191 north 57 miles. The campground is on the west side of the highway.
