About

Sunset Group Campground is a dedicated group camping area within the larger Sunset Campground complex on the eastern shore of Union Valley Reservoir. The site accommodates up to 30 people and provides a communal camping experience surrounded by the towering cedar and ponderosa pines of Eldorado National Forest's Crystal Basin at 5,000 feet elevation. The group site includes vault toilets, potable water, fire rings with grills, picnic tables, and bear boxes for food storage. A campground host is on-site during the operating season. The campground provides access to a boat ramp with an accessible boarding dock, a swimming beach, and a dump station for RVs. No utility hookups are available. Popular activities include boating, sailing, swimming, and fishing for rainbow trout, brown trout, mackinaw, and kokanee salmon. The Union Valley Bike Trail and Bassi Falls Hiking Trail offer excellent opportunities for hikers and mountain bikers. Bears are active in the area, and proper food storage is required.
