About

Lone Rock Campground provides a secluded camping experience on Union Valley Reservoir in California's Eldorado National Forest. Unlike most campgrounds in the Crystal Basin area, Lone Rock requires non-motorized access: visitors can hike or bike approximately 5.8 miles along the Union Valley trail from Jones Fork Campground, or boat in from the Union Valley boat ramp. This makes it an excellent choice for campers seeking solitude away from the more developed campgrounds. The campground operates from June through September and offers basic amenities including vault toilets and picnic tables. There is no potable water available, so campers must bring their own supply. All trash must be packed out. Fishing and mountain biking are popular activities in the area. With no fees and limited accessibility, Lone Rock attracts self-sufficient campers comfortable with primitive conditions. The setting on Union Valley Reservoir provides excellent fishing opportunities and scenic lakeside camping for those willing to make the journey.

Directions

23 miles east of Placerville on Highway 50 and 14 miles north on Ice House Road (Forest Road 3). Access is by hiking or biking the Union Valley trail from Jones Fork Campground (approximately 5.8 miles) or by boat from Union Valley boat ramp.
