About

Azalea Cove Campground is a remote, walk-in, bike-in, or boat-in campground situated along Union Valley Reservoir in the Crystal Basin Recreation Area of Eldorado National Forest. This primitive site offers a quieter alternative to the more developed vehicle-accessible campgrounds nearby, making it ideal for paddlers, cyclists on the Union Valley Bike Trail, or hikers seeking solitude. The campground provides basic amenities including vault toilets and picnic tables. There is no potable water available, so campers must bring their own supply. Trash service is not provided; visitors are required to pack out all garbage. No fees are charged for camping at this site. Recreation opportunities in the area include fishing, mountain biking, day hiking, and motorized boating on Union Valley Reservoir. The campground is located along the network of trails and roads connecting Jones Fork, Wench Creek, Wolf Creek, and Yellowjacket campgrounds in the Crystal Basin area.

Directions

From Placerville, drive 23 miles east on Highway 50, then 14 miles north on Ice House Road (Forest Road 3). The campground is accessible by trail between Jones Fork Campground and Wench Creek Campground (5.8 miles apart), or between Wolf Creek Campground and Yellowjacket Campground (0.8 miles apart). Walk-in, bike-in, or boat-in access only.
