About

Sunset Campground offers a basic desert camping experience in the heart of Death Valley National Park, located near the Furnace Creek area across from the Timbisha Shoshone village. The campground sits on desert gravel with little to no vegetation, providing an austere but authentic Death Valley atmosphere. With 230 sites, it's one of the largest campgrounds in the park and almost always has availability, even during the busiest winter weekends. The campground is designed for simplicity. Individual sites do not have fire grates or picnic tables, though two community fire rings are provided for shared use. Gas stoves are permitted at individual sites. Seasonal amenities include flush toilets, potable water, dump station, and trash collection. Paved roadways provide access throughout most of the campground, with overflow areas on gravel. One ADA-accessible comfort station is located on the west side of the campground. Fees are paid at automated stations using credit or debit card. Standard rate is $18 per night, with a reduced $9 rate for Senior and Access pass holders. The campground enforces quiet hours from 10 PM to 7 AM and generator hours from 7 AM to 9 PM. Stay is limited to 30 days, with a maximum of 8 people per site.
