Emigrant Campground

Closed

Closed indefinitely since late August 2025 due to flood damage. The 5-mile water pipeline and water system sustained substantial damage with no estimated repair date. The restrooms are also closed. Nearest open facilities are at Stovepipe Wells.

About

Emigrant Campground sits at 2,100 feet elevation along CA-190 in Death Valley National Park, offering a modest respite from the extreme heat of the valley floor. The small campground features 10 tent-only sites arranged on a rough gravel surface overlooking the Cottonwood Mountains, part of the Panamint Range. All sites operate on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations or camping fees. The campground is strictly tent-only; RVs and trailers are prohibited. Each site accommodates up to 8 people with a limit of 2 cars or 4 motorcycles. Fires and charcoal grills are not permitted, though gas-burning camp stoves are allowed. Pets must remain leashed (6 feet max) and attended at all times. Flush toilets are available in a building approximately 270 feet down a dirt trail from the campground. Visitors should be prepared for desert conditions and wildlife. All food, garbage, and cooking equipment must be stored in vehicles or animal-resistant containers when unattended, as coyotes and ravens are active scavengers in the area.

Directions

From Furnace Creek Visitor Center, turn left on CA-190 and drive west past Stovepipe Wells. Emigrant Campground is 10 miles southwest of Stovepipe Wells, approximately 40 minutes from the visitor center.
