Emigrant Campground
Closed — Closed since late August 2025 due to flood damage. The water system, restrooms, and campground sustained substantial damage to the 5-mile-long water pipe and associated infrastructure. No estimated reopening date.

About
Emigrant Campground is a small, primitive tent-only campground located at 2,100 feet elevation along California Highway 190 in Death Valley National Park, approximately 10 miles southwest of Stovepipe Wells and 40 minutes from the Furnace Creek Visitor Center. The campground features 10 first-come, first-served sites with views overlooking the Cottonwood Mountains, part of the Panamint Range. This free campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations accepted. Sites accommodate tents only; RVs and trailers are prohibited. The campground has a gravel surface that can be rough and rocky. Flush toilets are available in a building located approximately 270 feet down a dirt trail from the campground. Each bathroom requires navigating two steps at the entrance. Camping is limited to 30 consecutive days, with a maximum of 8 people per site. Sites can accommodate one recreational vehicle with tow, two cars, or four motorcycles. Check-out time is noon. Gas burning stoves are permitted, but campfires and charcoal grills are prohibited. Pets must be confined or leashed (maximum 6 feet) and are only allowed in developed areas or along roads. All food, garbage, and cooking equipment must be stored in vehicles or animal-resistant containers when unattended.
