About
Stone Creek Campground is a developed campground in Mount San Jacinto State Park, positioned at roughly 5,400 feet elevation along Highway 243 north of Idyllwild. The campground provides 44 individual sites accommodating tents, trailers up to 24 feet, and small RVs. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring, with some sites offering electric hookups. Water spigots are distributed throughout, though the campground has vault toilets rather than flush facilities and no showers. The campground serves as a gateway to the San Jacinto Wilderness and surrounding trails. The Panoramic Point Interpretive Trail begins near campsite #14, offering a 0.67-mile accessible loop through mixed conifer forest to an overlook. Stone Creek is one of only two areas in the park where dogs are permitted, making it popular with pet owners. An amphitheater hosts ranger programs during the camping season. Situated between Hemet and Palm Springs, the campground provides a forested mountain escape from Southern California's desert heat. San Jacinto Peak, the second-highest point in Southern California, is accessible via nearby trailheads.
Directions
From Idyllwild, head north on Highway 243 for approximately 5 miles. The campground entrance is on the east side of the highway.
