About

Fern Basin Campground, situated at an elevation of approximately 6,300 feet in the San Bernardino National Forest, offers a serene retreat amidst a grove of mixed oaks and conifers. The campground features 23 campsites suitable for tents and small RVs, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring with grill. Vault toilets are available on-site. The campground provides access to the Marion Mountain Trail, an 11.8-mile route leading to San Jacinto Peak. This trail offers expansive views of the ocean, Palm Desert, and surrounding mountain ranges. Located approximately 50 miles southeast of San Bernardino and about seven miles north of Idyllwild, the campground is near the town's shops and restaurants. Campers should be aware that potable water may not be available due to maintenance issues; it's advisable to bring sufficient water for drinking and cooking. Directions

From Idyllwild, travel north on State Route 243 for about 4 miles. Turn right at the campground sign, continue onto Forest Service Road 4S02, and proceed less than a mile to an intersection. Continue straight on the forest road, and then turn left into the campground.
