About
Stephen A. Forbes State Recreation Area centers on a 585-acre lake stocked with largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, catfish, and walleye-sauger hybrids. Oak Ridge Campground underwent an $8.45 million infrastructure improvement project completed in 2025, including bridge replacement, road resurfacing, new lighting, and upgraded parking. The modernized campground offers 115 shaded sites with electric and water hookups, a shower building, and a 120-foot floating walkway connecting to the marina with 80 boat slips, fuel dock, and boat rentals. Ten walk-in sites offer scenic lake views for those seeking a quieter experience. A separate 21-site equestrian campground with electricity sits one mile east of Omega, providing access to 15 miles of equestrian trails open May 15 through November 1. The park also features Rocky Point Beach with a 200-foot sand beach, seven picnic areas with shelters, four hiking trails ranging from 0.25 to 2.5 miles, and over 2,000 acres open for hunting. The Whippoorwill area accommodates youth group camping, and ADA fishing access is available via a 220-foot floating walkway. Boston Pond offers seasonal trout fishing in spring and fall, with additional fishing opportunities at Marlow and Wilson Ponds.
