About
Dam East Recreation Area is a day-use facility situated on the southern shore of Carlyle Lake, approximately 50 miles east of St. Louis. The area provides excellent water access with two boat ramps, one of which is considered one of the best high-water ramps on the lake, plus a courtesy dock for launching and loading. Carlyle Lake, created in 1967, covers 26,000 acres and is recognized as one of the nation's top ten inland sailing lakes. The lake supports diverse fishing opportunities year-round, including bluegill, crappie, channel catfish, flathead catfish, white bass, largemouth bass, freshwater drum, carp, and walleye. A multi-use biking and walking trail is located nearby, and visitors can cross the dam to reach Dam West Recreation Area. This facility is strictly for day use; no overnight camping is permitted here. Campers seeking overnight accommodations should book at the adjacent Dam East - McNair Campground, which offers electric and water hookup sites.
