About

Boulder Campground occupies a scenic stretch of the eastern shoreline of Carlyle Lake, a 26,000-acre reservoir recognized as one of the nation's top ten inland sailing lakes. Located 50 miles east of St. Louis in Clinton County, the campground offers 82 sites, all equipped with electric hookups (20/30/50 amp service), picnic tables, and fire pits. Many sites sit directly on the lakeshore, providing unobstructed water views. The facility features modern amenities including flush toilets, hot showers, potable water, and a dump station. An adjacent day-use area includes boat ramps, courtesy docks, and a fish cleaning station. The campground also has a playground, open space for recreation, and an amphitheater that hosts educational programs. Carlyle Lake supports year-round fishing for bluegill, crappie, channel catfish, flathead catfish, white bass, largemouth bass, freshwater drum, carp, and walleye. The lake and surrounding shores serve as resting spots for migratory waterfowl, with six Watchable Wildlife Sites featuring viewing towers open to the public around the lake. A multi-use biking and walking trail is located at the dam, and the Carlyle Lake Visitor Center offers nature exhibits including a 215-gallon aquarium with native fish.
