About

Located at 9,900 feet elevation on Grand Mesa National Forest, Spruce Grove Campground provides a high-altitude camping experience in a dense spruce forest setting. The campground features 16 campsites arranged in a large loop, with most sites offering pull-through access that can accommodate large RVs with maximum spur lengths of 48 feet. The campground operates entirely on a first-come, first-served basis, meaning reservations are not available and visitors must arrive in person to claim a site. The remote, forested setting provides a peaceful camping experience, though mosquitoes can be abundant and repellent is recommended. The campground offers vault toilets but no potable water, so campers must bring their own water supply. The location serves as an excellent base for exploring Grand Mesa, with convenient day trip access to Lands End Observatory located south of the campground via Forest Road 100. A nearby lodge offers dining options for those seeking a break from camp cooking. The campground typically operates from mid-June through late September, with exact dates weather-dependent. At this elevation, snow can arrive early and linger late into spring, making summer the primary season for access. The site is lightly used compared to other campgrounds on the mesa, providing a quieter alternative for those seeking solitude in the high country.

Directions

From Mesa, CO, take State Highway 65 south 13.2 miles to the campground sign. Turn right at the sign into the campground.
