About

Jumbo Campground occupies a scenic location at 9,800 feet elevation on Colorado's Grand Mesa, tucked between Jumbo and Sunset Lakes in the Mesa Lakes area. The campground provides 26 sites spread through a forest of mature spruce and aspen trees, with 21 sites featuring electric hookups and 5 remaining primitive. The hilly terrain creates natural privacy between closely spaced sites, and most offer views of the surrounding lakes. The Mesa Lakes area is home to over 300 lakes, making this an ideal base for fishing and paddling. Jumbo and Sunset Lakes allow non-motorized watercraft, and anglers target brown, brook, and rainbow trout. The West Bench Trail No. 501 provides hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding opportunities through the surrounding landscape. The nearby Mesa Lakes Ranger Station, built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1941, offers visitor information. Lodges in the area provide dining options. Mosquitoes are abundant throughout summer; bring repellent. The Grand Mesa Visitor Center at Island Lake features interpretive exhibits and a native wildflower garden with over 50 species.
