About

Somerset Airfield is a free primitive campground situated at a former airfield site in the Green Mountain National Forest near Somerset Reservoir. Managed by the Manchester Ranger District, this small campground offers 7 rustic campsites arranged along a grassy clearing next to Forest Road 71. The setting provides easy access to the nearby Somerset Reservoir for fishing, paddling, and swimming. As a primitive campground, amenities are limited to vault toilets. There is no potable water on site; campers must bring their own water or filter from nearby sources. Campfires are permitted in designated fire rings when no fire restrictions are in place. The location offers opportunities for wildlife viewing, including occasional moose sightings in the nearby Shep Meadows area. The campground is accessible from Route 9 in Searsburg by heading north on Somerset Road for approximately 3 miles. Sites are first-come, first-served with no reservations or fees required. Standard USFS rules apply, including a 14-day stay limit within any 30-day period.

Directions

From Route 9 in Searsburg, take Somerset Road north for approximately 3 miles. The campground will be on the left side.
