An area of moderate to locally heavy snow showers will continue across portions of southern Vermont through around 630 AM. Additional accumulations of between 1 and 2 inches will be possible during this time, particularly across higher elevations above 1200 feet. Those traveling across southern Vermont, particularly through higher terrain areas should be prepared to encounter poor visibilities and snow covered roadways as these snow showers pass through. This includes portions of Route 9 between Woodford and Searsburg.

* WHAT...West winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. * WHERE...Portions of northwestern Connecticut, western Massachusetts, eastern New York, and southern Vermont. * WHEN...Until 7 PM EST this evening. * IMPACTS...Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Strong westerly winds continue today, especially across the eastern Catskills, Mohawk Valley, Greater Capital District, northern Taconics, and southern Vermont. Blowing and drifting snow will occur today due to these gusty winds, where treated roadways can be re-covered in snow.

Story Spring Shelter is a backcountry overnight shelter situated along both the Appalachian National Scenic Trail and the Long Trail in Vermont's Green Mountain National Forest. Located at 2,810 feet elevation in a remote forest setting, this shelter is accessible only by hiking the Appalachian Trail south from Kelly Stand Road. The shelter provides basic accommodations for approximately eight hikers and features a standard three-sided design common to Appalachian Trail shelters. The facility includes a composting toilet and access to a natural water source located just north of the shelter. All water must be treated or filtered before consumption. The shelter operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservation system or fees required. This is a primitive backcountry site intended for hikers traveling the Appalachian or Long Trail, offering basic protection from the elements in a wilderness setting. During winter months, access may be challenging as Green Mountain National Forest roads typically close to vehicle traffic from December 15 through May 1. Winter users should be prepared for snow conditions and limited road access to trailheads.
