About
Aspen Group Campground is located alongside scenic Jackson Meadows Reservoir in the Tahoe National Forest at an elevation of 6,100 feet. This group campground is designed for larger gatherings of 25 to 50 people, with three designated group sites each equipped with picnic tables and fire rings. The campground provides a rustic camping experience with vault toilets but no potable water, requiring campers to bring water filters or their own supply. The reservoir setting offers excellent opportunities for fishing, with rainbow trout and kokanee salmon as the primary catches. A boat launch provides access for kayaking, canoeing, and water skiing. The surrounding area features hiking trails, including proximity to the Pacific Crest Trail, and meadows with summer wildflower displays. The campground is managed by Nevada Irrigation District in cooperation with the U.S. Forest Service. Bears are active in the area, and all food must be stored in approved bear-proof containers or lockers. The remote location requires high-clearance vehicles for access on unpaved roads. Fire restrictions may be imposed during hot, dry weather conditions. Quiet hours are enforced from 10 PM to 6 AM, making the campground ideal for stargazing with minimal light pollution.
Directions
From Bishop, California, take Highway 395 northwest for 25 miles. Turn south at Tom's Place, and continue driving south for 4 miles onto Rock Creek Road, following signs to the campground.
