Silver Fir Campground is located along the North Fork Nooksack River in the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, approximately 14 miles east of Glacier on the Mount Baker Highway. The campground features 21 individual sites for tents and RVs, with most sites set back from the highway and accessible via a short walk to the river. Mature silver fir, western red cedar, and western hemlock provide shade throughout the campground, while a sunny gravel bar separates the sites from the river. The campground provides an excellent base for hiking and backpacking in the Mount Baker Wilderness and northern reaches of North Cascades National Park. Hannegan Pass Road, located less than a mile from the campground, accesses multiple trailheads leading into alpine terrain. The Mount Baker Highway scenic byway continues east to the Heather Meadows area, offering additional hiking and photography opportunities. A historic Civilian Conservation Corps picnic shelter is available for group reservations. Mount Baker dominates the landscape, rising to 10,781 feet as an active volcano mantled with extensive glaciers. Wildlife includes mountain goats on the high slopes, black bears in the forests, and varied bird species throughout the area. In winter, the campground functions as a non-motorized Sno-Park for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

Directions

From Bellingham, take exit 255 onto Sunset Drive/Mt. Baker Highway SR 542. Continue on SR 542 past Glacier (near mile 33) for approximately 12.5 miles. The campground is on the right after crossing the bridge over the North Fork Nooksack River near milepost 46.
