About

Scott Flat Campground is a rustic, no-fee campground located half a mile off State Route 36 in the South Fork Management Unit of Shasta-Trinity National Forest. The campground offers 10 campsites that can accommodate trailers up to 20 feet in length. Access is via unpaved Forest Service Road 1S25 from the Hell Gate turnoff. Vault toilets are provided but there is no potable water system; campers must bring their own water or treat water from nearby sources. The campground serves as the primary trailhead for the South Fork National Recreation Trail, which follows the river south for 7.2 miles to Smokey Creek. The South Fork Trinity River offers excellent opportunities for swimming, fishing, and riverside recreation. Dogs are permitted but must be kept on a leash of 6 feet or shorter in the developed areas. This is a first-come, first-served campground with no reservation system. The remote location and primitive facilities make it well-suited for hikers seeking trail access and campers who prefer a quieter, undeveloped experience.

Directions

From State Route 36, take the Hell Gate turnoff to Forest Service Road 1S25. The campground is half a mile off the highway. Access road is unpaved.
