About
Philpot Picnic Area is a small day-use recreation site in the South Fork Trinity River area of the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. Previously designated as a campground, the site now operates exclusively for day use with no overnight camping allowed. The facility features six picnic spots with tables and vault toilets. No potable water is available, so visitors should bring their own. Access is via an unpaved forest road. The picnic area serves as a trailhead for the Philpot Interpretive Trail, offering a pleasant hiking opportunity through the surrounding forest. There are no fees to use this site. The area is open seasonally from May 1st through mid-October, weather permitting.
Directions
From Hayfork, travel south on CA State Route 3, turn west on Rattlesnake Road, then turn right on Forest Road 30N31. The picnic area is on the left.
