About

Big Slide Campground sits along the scenic South Fork Trinity River in the remote western portion of the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. This small, primitive campground offers 8 tent-only sites in a quiet riverside setting, ideal for those seeking a peaceful escape with direct river access for swimming, fishing, and non-motorized boating. The campground is free and operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations accepted. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring. Vault toilets are provided, but there is no potable water, so campers must bring their own water supply or treat water from the river. The area offers excellent wildlife viewing opportunities and serves as a base for exploring the surrounding forest trails. Access is via County Road 301 from Hayfork to Hyampom, then Lower South Fork Road past the bridge and private residences. The remote location and lack of fees make this an appealing destination for experienced campers comfortable with primitive facilities.

Directions

From Hayfork take Hyampom Road until it splits in Hyampom. Then take Lower South Fork Road across the bridge and past the private residences to the campground.
