Hell Gate Campground is located along the South Fork Trinity River in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, offering a peaceful riverside camping experience at 2,300 feet elevation. The campground features 17 campsites, some of which can accommodate trailers up to 16 feet in length. Each site is equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, and bear-resistant food locker. The campground provides direct access to the Trinity River via a rocky beach area, making it popular for swimming, fishing, and water recreation. Wildlife watching and bird watching are excellent along the river corridor. The South Fork National Recreation Trail, a 21-mile trail system, begins at the campground and offers hiking and equestrian opportunities through the surrounding forest. Amenities include vault toilets, but potable water is not available on-site, so visitors must bring their own water or be prepared to treat river water. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with a fee of $6 per night for single sites or $12 per site (accommodating 1 vehicle and up to 8 people). Pets are allowed but must be kept on a leash no longer than 6 feet.

Take State Route 3 south from Hayfork to State Route 36. Travel 11 miles west.
