About

Sawtooth Canyon Campground sits in a striking desert canyon where the ridgeline resembles a saw blade. Known as "New Jack City" among rock climbers who frequent the area's renowned walls including Boy Scout Wall and White Face Wall, this BLM-managed campground offers a primitive but well-equipped desert camping experience about 20 miles south of Barstow, California. The campground has 13 sites: four near Boy Scout Wall with direct access to the vault toilet and information kiosk, three walk-in sites about 50 feet from the parking area across the canyon, and a host site near White Face Wall. Amenities include 12 shade ramadas, 12 fire pits with grills, 12 barbecue grills, and 12 picnic tables. This is a primitive campground with no potable water, showers, dump station, or hookups. The canyon's historic name "Traer Agua" means "bring water" in Spanish, a reminder that desert self-sufficiency is essential. Summer temperatures reach 100-120°F, and visitors should be prepared for extreme heat, strong winds, and potential flash flooding. OHV recreational riding is prohibited; vehicles must be trailered in and out. Wildlife viewing, hunting, and picnicking are also popular activities in this "Limited" use area.
