About

Sand Flat Campground is a well-established Forest Service campground located along the popular Highway 50 corridor in Eldorado National Forest. Situated at 3,900 feet elevation, it provides easy access to the surrounding Sierra Nevada foothills and serves as a convenient base for exploring the region's trails, rivers, and backcountry. The campground offers 30 sites total, with 25 standard nonelectric sites suitable for tents and smaller RVs, plus 5 walk-to sites for those seeking a slightly more secluded experience. Each site includes a fire ring, grill, and picnic table. Vault toilets and potable water (tested monthly) are available throughout the campground, along with trash service and bear-proof food storage boxes. Bears are active in this area, and all food, toiletries, and scented items must be stored in the provided bear boxes. Campfires are permitted in designated fire rings using dead and down wood only, though restrictions may apply during high fire danger periods. Pets are welcome but must remain leashed at all times. Horse and pack animals are not permitted.
