About

Ice House Campground is situated in a mixed conifer forest on the shores of Ice House Reservoir at 5,500 feet elevation in Eldorado National Forest. The 700-acre reservoir and surrounding landscape offer excellent opportunities for water recreation, fishing, hiking, and mountain biking. Some campsites sit right on the shoreline while others are nestled in the shade of towering ponderosa pines, cedars, and manzanita bushes. The campground was renovated in 2022 and includes 83 sites ranging from standard and walk-to sites to RV sites near the boat ramp area. Amenities include vault toilets, drinking water faucets, showers, a dump station, and an on-site boat ramp. Firewood is sold on-site. The reservoir is popular for swimming, boating, jet skiing, and fishing for rainbow, brown, and brook trout. The Ice House Mountain Bike Trail stretches 3.1 miles along ridge tops and shaded northern slopes with views of the reservoir and Crystal Range. The campground is located in the Crystal Basin Recreation Area, about 12 miles from Riverton and 23 miles east of Placerville. Nearby attractions include Bassi Falls, accessible via a 1.2-mile hike to a 109-foot granite waterfall. Bears are active in the area, so food must be stored in approved containers. The campground operates seasonally with reservations available through Recreation.gov, though some first-come, first-served sites are available.
