About
Harvey West Cabin offers a cozy mountain retreat experience in Eldorado National Forest. The historic two-level cabin features a large open great room, kitchen with propane stove and refrigerator, two downstairs bedrooms, one and a half bathrooms with flush toilets, and two spacious lofts overlooking the main room. Beds accommodate 12 guests with additional floor and deck space for 8 more. The cabin runs entirely on propane for lighting, heating, and cooking as there is no electricity. Located on the Silver Fork of the American River among Ponderosa pine and cedar trees, the cabin provides excellent access to fishing for brown and rainbow trout, bird watching, hiking, and river wading. The nearby China Flat Day Use Area offers picnic tables and a beach on the riverbank. The town of Kyburz is 2 miles away with limited services. Guests must check in at the Placerville Ranger Station to receive the bridge and cabin combination codes. The cabin is accessed by crossing a footbridge over the river from the China Flat Day Use parking area. Be aware there is no cell service at the cabin, and mice have been a problem requiring strict food storage protocols.

From Highway 50, travel approximately 32 miles east of Placerville or 25 miles west of South Lake Tahoe. Turn south onto Silver Fork Road (11N40).
