About
Sand Bar Flat Campground is a developed Forest Service campground tucked into a forested setting along the Middle Fork Stanislaus River. The campground features 68 sites total, including 53 drive-in sites and 15 walk-in sites, making it suitable for both tent campers and those with smaller RVs or trailers. Each site comes equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. Vault toilets are available throughout, with some units being fully ADA accessible. The campground is known for excellent fly fishing opportunities and a peaceful, secluded atmosphere away from Highway 108 crowds. Access is via Fraser Flat Road (Forest Road 4N01), then Forest Road 4N88 and 4N85. The road becomes steep, narrow, and unpaved past Fraser Flat Campground, making it unsuitable for large RVs or trailers over 35 feet. Practice Leave No Trace principles and pack out all trash. Quiet hours are enforced from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Maximum stay is 14 consecutive days, with a limit of 6 people per site. Horse and pack animal use is not permitted.
Directions
From Highway 108, take the Spring Gap turnoff onto Fraser Flat Road (Forest Road 4N01). Continue 10 miles north, then turn right on Forest Road 4N88, followed by a left on 4N85 to the campground.
