Sampson State Park

Closed — Closed for the season. The campground operates from May 15 through October 12, with a closure from September 21-30 for an annual dog show. Swimming beach operates from the third Saturday in June through Labor Day.

About

Sampson State Park encompasses just over 2,000 acres on the eastern shore of Seneca Lake, the largest of the Finger Lakes. The park features 243 electric campsites arranged in loops, with level gravel pads requiring back-in trailer placement. Originally the site of a World War II naval training station that trained over three-quarters of a million airmen and sailors, the land was transferred to New York State in the 1960s and transformed into a recreation destination. The park's centerpiece is its stunning lakefront location offering some of the most picturesque sunsets in the Finger Lakes Region. The newly remodeled marina features 96 boat slips, a large multiple launch site, and gas pumps. A sandy beach with guarded swimming operates during summer months. Recreational facilities include tennis courts, horseshoes, basketball and volleyball courts, playgrounds, and a scenic lake trail. Popular activities include boating, fishing, hunting by special permit, biking, hiking, geocaching, and wildlife viewing. The park also houses a military museum honoring its naval history and is located near the Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Camping operations are managed in partnership with Seneca Lake Resorts, which also operates the marina and seasonal cottage rentals.
