* WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations 1 to 3 feet. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph will create blowing and drifting snow and whiteout conditions. * WHERE...Wayne and Northern Cayuga Counties. * WHEN...Until 7 PM EST Thursday. * IMPACTS...Whiteout conditions are expected making travel very difficult at times today. The hazardous conditions from lake effect snow will continue to impact travel through the week. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Heaviest snowfall and strongest winds expected today through this evening with lingering lake snows continuing through mid-week.

Snow showers, and lake effect snow bands have set up across the region early this morning. Snow could be locally heavy at times, reducing visibility down to 1/4 mile. This coupled with the strong gusty winds, blowing snow and cold temperatures will create snow covered and slippery road conditions. Localized accumulations of 2 or 3 inches will be possible through 8 AM EST. If you are traveling this morning be prepared for rapidly changing weather and road conditions. Plan some extra time to reach your destination safely.

* WHAT...Heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations between 6 and 12 inches. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph. * WHERE...Southern Cayuga County. * WHEN...Until 7 AM EST Wednesday. * IMPACTS...Visibilities may drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and blowing snow. Whiteout conditions are expected and will make travel treacherous and potentially life-threatening. Travel could be very difficult. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the Tuesday morning and evening commutes. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The heaviest lake effect snow will be near Sennett for Cayuga County. Snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour possible Tuesday morning. Widespread blowing snow will create whiteout conditions and occasional blizzard conditions. Snowfall amounts will significantly decrease across the far southern end of Cayuga County.
