About

Salton Sea State Recreation Area encompasses over 18,000 acres along the northeastern shore of the Salton Sea, California's largest lake located 228 feet below sea level in the Colorado Desert. The park offers diverse camping experiences from developed full-hookup sites at Headquarters Campground near the visitor center to primitive shoreline camping at Corvina Beach and Salt Creek Beach. Headquarters Campground features 14-15 full-hookup sites with 50-amp electrical service, water, and sewer connections. Each site includes a table and grill, with flush restrooms and showers nearby. The campground accommodates RVs up to 35 feet and includes pull-through sites. Primitive shoreline camps offer direct beach access for a more rustic experience at lower cost. The Salton Sea attracts migratory birds along the Pacific Flyway, making it a prime birdwatching destination. Fishing for tilapia and corvina remains popular despite the sea's changing conditions. The Ironwood Nature Trail provides an accessible 0.38-mile loop through desert landscape. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 100°F, so the October through May season sees the most visitors.
