About

Mecca Beach Campground is a developed camping facility within Salton Sea State Recreation Area, situated along the eastern shore of California's largest inland lake. The campground features rows of paved sites with full hookups (water, electric, and sewer) for RVs, along with sites suitable for tent camping. Shade trees are scattered throughout the campground, providing relief from the desert sun. The Salton Sea State Recreation Area is located on the Pacific Flyway, and over 400 bird species have been documented here, making it one of the most diverse birding locations in North America. During winter migration from November through February, millions of birds use the area daily. The peak camping season runs from October through June, when daytime temperatures range from the low to mid-seventies, with cooler nights in the fifties. Summer temperatures from July to September can be extremely hot. The campground provides modern restroom facilities with flush toilets and showers. Each site typically includes a picnic table and fire pit. The Recreation Area offers fishing, boating, trails, and day-use areas. Headquarters Camp within the recreation area also offers full hookup sites and should be reserved in advance during peak season. Three primitive beach campgrounds (Corvina, Salt Creek, and Bombay Beach) provide additional camping options along the shoreline.

Directions

From Los Angeles, take Interstate 10 east to Indio, exit onto Highway 86S, turn left at Avenue 66, then right onto Highway 111. Proceed south approximately 12 miles to the Salton Sea State Recreation Area Headquarters entrance. From San Diego, take Highway 78 east, then left (north) on Highway 86. Turn right at Avenue 66, then right onto Highway 111, and continue south about 12 miles to the entrance.
