About

Red Cliff Campground is located in the scenic Gallatin Canyon on the Bozeman Ranger District of the Custer Gallatin National Forest. At 6,200 feet elevation, the campground sits adjacent to the Gallatin River and Highway 191, offering 67 campsites scattered among pine and fir trees with some sites in open meadows further from the river. Twenty-six sites feature electrical hookups. The Gallatin River provides excellent fishing for rainbow, brown, brook, and cutthroat trout, as well as whitefish and Arctic grayling. Rafting and kayaking are popular activities. The Elkhorn Creek Trail for hiking and horseback riding begins at the south end of the campground. Wildlife is abundant in this canyon, including bald eagles, bighorn sheep, moose, elk, mountain goats, and deer. Black and grizzly bears frequent the area; all food must be stored in approved bear-resistant containers. The west entrance to Yellowstone National Park is 45 miles south in West Yellowstone.
