About

Rye Patch State Recreation Area Group Campground sits on the west side of Rye Patch Reservoir, a 22-mile long impoundment on the Humboldt River in Nevada's Great Basin. The park is open year-round and serves as a base for water recreation, fishing, and desert exploration. The reservoir offers 72 miles of shoreline and 11,000 acres of water surface when full, attracting boaters, water-skiers, and anglers targeting white bass, catfish, black bass, walleye, and crappie. The west side campground area includes 25 units with restrooms featuring flush toilets and hot showers. A sanitary dump station with potable water is available on the dam's west side. The park includes a double-lane boat ramp and dock next to the campground. Day-use picnic areas with tables, grills, and water are available, with the west side group area accommodating up to 100 people. Beyond water activities, Rye Patch serves as a popular base camp for OHV recreation on surrounding public lands, ghost town exploration, and gold prospecting. The area hosts the annual Rye Patch Nugget Shoot, attracting metal detecting enthusiasts from across the country. Wildlife viewing opportunities include hawks, eagles, owls, great egrets, antelope, deer, and fox. The park is located 22 miles north of Lovelock and approximately 100 miles from Reno.
