About

Rye Patch State Recreation Area sits along a 22-mile reservoir with 72 miles of shoreline in Nevada's high desert, about 22 miles northeast of Lovelock off Interstate 80. The park provides two distinct camping areas: a 22-site river campground positioned below the dam, and a 25-site campground on the reservoir's west side near the boat launch. Both campgrounds include restrooms with flush toilets and hot showers, a notable amenity for a remote desert location. Dump stations with potable water are available, making extended stays practical for RV campers. Each site has a picnic table and grill. The west side also offers a double-lane boat ramp with dock and a group-use area accommodating up to 100 people. The reservoir supports a productive warm-water fishery with white bass, walleye, white crappie, largemouth bass, bluegill, and channel catfish. Boating, waterskiing, and swimming are popular in warmer months. The surrounding sagebrush terrain offers solitude and dark skies, though summer temperatures can exceed 100°F.

Directions

From Lovelock, take Interstate 80 northeast approximately 22 miles to Exit 129 (Rye Patch Road/State Route 401). Follow Rye Patch Road south to the recreation area entrance.
