About
Rose Valley Campground is the gateway to the legendary Rose Valley Falls, a magnificent two-tier 300-foot waterfall on the west end of the Topatopa Mountains in Los Padres National Forest. The campground sits at 3,450 feet elevation, surrounded by chaparral-covered mountains with pockets of Bigcone Douglas-Fir, cottonwood trees providing shade, and a running creek nearby. The principal attraction is Rose Valley Falls Trail, beginning between sites 4 and 5. The lower tier waterfall (100 feet) is an easy 0.8-mile round trip with 150 feet of elevation gain. The upper tier requires more adventurous scrambling over crumbly arkosic sandstone cliffs. Wildlife includes coyotes, deer, bobcats, mountain lions, bears, and red-tailed hawks. Spring brings wild roses and poppies; fall offers vibrant foliage. One mile away on Rose Valley Road is Piedra Blanca Trailhead, accessing trails into the Sespe Wilderness including the Gene Marshall-Piedra Blanca National Recreation Trail leading to massive white rock formations.
