About
Reyes Creek Campground is a streamside hideaway nestled at 3,500 feet elevation in Los Padres National Forest, where riparian oak and cottonwood trees provide generous shade throughout the campground. The creek runs year-round, creating ideal conditions for fishing, swimming holes, and hammock camping along its banks. Red-tailed hawks are commonly spotted overhead, and visitors may occasionally glimpse California condors in the area. The campground serves as a trailhead for the Reyes Creek Trail, which links to the Gene Marshall-Piedra Blanca National Recreation Trail and provides access to the Sespe Wilderness. The area is popular for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, nature viewing, and recreational mining. Hunters also frequent the campground during fall seasons. In winter months, campers can take day trips to higher elevations for snow play. The campground is reached via paved roads from either Ojai (Highway 33 north to Lockwood Valley Road) or Frazier Park (Lockwood Valley Road). Sites are available both by reservation and first-come-first-serve, with single sites running $30 weeknights and $32 weekends, plus a group site available for $150 per night.
Directions
From Ojai: Take Highway 33 north for 35 miles over the mountain to Lockwood Valley Road. Turn right on Lockwood Valley Road and drive 3 miles to the Camp Scheideck/Reyes Creek Campground sign. Turn right and travel 1.5 miles to the campground entrance (3.7 miles total from Lockwood Valley Road). From Frazier Park: Take Lockwood Valley Road approximately 23-25 miles, then turn left at the Camp Scheideck/Reyes Creek Campground sign. The road is paved the entire way.
