About
Riverside Campground & Cabins occupies a shaded stretch of the Big Sur River, where coastal redwoods mix with maple, oak, laurel, and poplar. The privately owned property has been welcoming campers to this section of Highway 1 for decades, offering an accessible base camp for exploring one of California's most dramatic coastlines. Sites are dispersed among the trees, with many positioned directly along the riverbank.
The campground provides 34 campsites split between tent-only and RV-capable sites, plus 11 cabins ranging from studios to two-bedroom units with kitchens and fireplaces. RV sites accommodate rigs up to 25 feet and include water and electric hookups, fire pits, and picnic tables. Tent sites are similarly equipped with fire pits and tables. Amenities include hot showers, flush restrooms, laundry facilities, a camp store stocking firewood and essentials, and complimentary coffee and oatmeal.
The Big Sur River running through the property is a major draw. Guests swim, float on inner tubes provided by the campground, and fish for steelhead during the catch-and-release season (November through February). Pfeiffer Beach and numerous hiking trails lie within a short drive. The campground is pet-friendly, allowing dogs at campsites and most cabins for an additional fee.
