About

Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park Campground sits in one of California's most iconic coastal forests, where coast redwoods tower above the meandering Big Sur River. The 189-site campground accommodates tents and RVs up to 32 feet, with options ranging from standard sites to premium riverfront locations. Each site includes a fire ring and picnic table, and the campground provides flush toilets, token-operated hot showers, drinking water, and a dump station throughout. The park spans diverse terrain with redwoods, oaks, sycamores, and willows providing habitat for black-tailed deer, bobcats, and various bird species. Trails lead through the forest, though dogs are restricted to designated paths. A camp store and Big Sur Lodge offer food service and supplies on-site. Note that despite the coastal location, there is no beach or ocean access within this park. This is one of the most sought-after campgrounds on the California coast. Reservations open six months in advance and typically sell out immediately, especially for weekend and summer dates. Peak season stay is limited to 7 consecutive nights with a 30-day annual maximum.
