About
Arroyo Seco Campground is a developed facility in Los Padres National Forest's Monterey Ranger District, nestled into a hillside surrounded by oak trees and abundant shrubbery. Situated along the Arroyo Seco River at approximately 1,200 feet elevation, the campground offers views of Ventana Wilderness peaks and access to a small lake where anglers can pursue bass and catfish. The nearby river features a beach area for wading and swimming, though water levels depend on seasonal rainfall. The campground is divided into modern and primitive areas. Modern sites feature paved roads and spurs, coin-operated showers, flush toilets with ADA accessibility, and drinking water. Primitive sites offer a quieter experience with vault toilets while still providing water hydrants, fire rings, and picnic tables. Both single and double-occupancy sites are available for tents and RVs, though no hookups or dump station exist. Recreation opportunities abound with the 15.5-mile Santa Lucia Trail providing hiking and horseback access into the Ventana Wilderness. The McPhearson Peak and Aliso trails also originate here. Fishing requires a license for those over 16, and small non-motorized boats are permitted on the lake. Motorized vehicles are prohibited beyond the gated road into the wilderness.
