About

Spruce Campground occupies a quiet corner of Rifle River Recreation Area's 4,449 acres in Ogemaw County. The 16 rustic sites are spread across two loops, offering spacious, level pads separated by mature trees that provide genuine privacy. Each site comes equipped with a picnic table and fire ring with cooking grill. Potable water is available from a hand pump, and vault toilets serve the campground. The campground's location puts anglers within a short walk of the Rifle River, with direct access to Gamble Creek between sites 171 and 173. Brook, brown, and rainbow trout draw visitors throughout the season. Beyond fishing, campers can access the park's 14-mile multiuse trail system for hiking and mountain biking, or spend a day at the swim beach on Devoe Lake. Spruce tends to stay quieter than the park's modern campground even on busy summer weekends. The rustic atmosphere appeals to those seeking a genuine outdoor experience without electrical hookups or modern amenities.
