About

Los Vaqueros Group Horse Camp is a dedicated equestrian group camping facility within Cuyamaca Rancho State Park in San Diego County. Situated approximately 2 miles east of Highway 79 on Los Caballos Road, the camp provides a scenic base for horse camping in the pine and oak forests of the Cuyamaca Mountains. The facility is designed for larger groups, accommodating up to 80 people, 45 horses, and 50 vehicles including trucks and trailers (maximum 50-foot vehicle length). Amenities include pipe corrals with a limit of one horse per corral, picnic tables, BBQ grills, water faucets, and a large communal fire ring. The camp has its own restroom with showers. Manure receptacles are provided, though campers are responsible for cleaning their own corrals. The surrounding park offers over 100 miles of trails through varied terrain including meadows, streams, and forests with both ocean and desert views. Dogs are permitted on leash within the campground but are prohibited on park trails.

Directions

From San Diego, take I-8 east and exit at Highway 79 north. Continue approximately 5 miles north on Highway 79 to the park entrance. The campground is located about 2 miles east of Highway 79 on Los Caballos Road.
