This group picnic facility is available for reservation for day use only, providing a unique setting for gatherings with panoramic views of the Bay Area. The picnic area features tables and allows charcoal grills or camp stoves, though wood fires are prohibited island-wide. Angel Island State Park is accessible only by public ferry from San Francisco or Tiburon, or by private boat. The island offers rich history spanning 3,000 years, from Coast Miwok fishing and hunting sites to military installations and the historic U.S. Immigration Station. Visitors can explore nearly 100 years of military history at Fort McDowell, which processed thousands of troops during both World Wars. The island features hiking trails, historic sites, and recreational opportunities throughout. The East Garrison area is near restrooms and is part of the historic Fort McDowell complex. Visitors must bring their own food to the island, as there are no guarantees of on-site dining. Dogs are not permitted except for service animals. Bicycles are allowed, with helmet requirements for riders under 18. The park is open sunrise to sunset, and night travel after sunset is prohibited in some areas for safety.
