About

Borrego Palm Canyon Campground is the largest and most developed campground within Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, California's largest state park located in the Colorado Desert of San Diego County. The campground sits at the base of the dramatic San Ysidro Mountains and serves as an ideal base camp for exploring the park's 500 miles of dirt roads, 12 wilderness areas, and extensive hiking trail system. The campground features 52 RV sites with full hookups (electric, water, and sewer), 65 tent sites without hookups, 8 hike-in primitive sites, and 5 group sites that accommodate larger parties. Each site includes a picnic table and shade ramada to provide relief from the desert sun. The facility offers modern amenities including flush toilets, hot showers, drinking water, a dump station, and fire rings. The campground can accommodate RVs and trailers up to 35 feet. The trailhead for the renowned Borrego Palm Canyon Trail is located at the west end of the campground road, offering a 3-mile round-trip hike to a palm oasis. Though the first palm grove is currently closed due to fire damage with the trail ending at a viewpoint, visitors can still experience dramatic desert scenery and wildlife viewing opportunities. The park is home to peninsular bighorn sheep (borrego in Spanish), golden eagles, kit foxes, roadrunners, and during wet winters, spectacular wildflower blooms typically peaking from mid-March to mid-April. The campground is located 2.5 miles west of Borrego Springs near the park's underground Visitor Center.
