About
The Rampart Range Recreation Area Designated Dispersed Camping provides a primitive camping experience in Pike National Forest at approximately 9,749 feet elevation. Unlike traditional dispersed camping, all camping here is restricted to numbered sites along National Forest System Roads 300, 502, 507, and 563. Each designated site includes a fire ring and picnic table. The area is operated by a concessionaire and requires a nightly fee. This heavily motorized recreation area provides access to over 300 miles of OHV trails (vehicles under 50 inches width only). All motorized vehicles must be Colorado-registered with a USFS-approved spark arrestor. The area also features Devils Head Fire Lookout Tower, one of the few remaining staffed fire lookouts, and several climbing areas. Campers must bring their own water as none is available on-site. Trash is pack-in/pack-out. Vault toilets are located at trailheads throughout the area, with port-a-potties available near camping zones. Bear-resistant food storage is required, and no firearms or fireworks are permitted. Thunderstorms are common at this elevation; campers should take precautions for lightning.
Directions
From Denver, take Highway 85 south to Sedalia, then Highway 67 west approximately 10 miles to Rampart Range Road (NFSR 300). Designated dispersed sites are located along NFSR 300, 502, 507, and 563.
